We are in the middle of the fifth month of quarantine. The failure of the highest authorities to act quickly and with dispatch to control the spread of the virus, their abandonment of responsibility in the midst of crisis, and their malignant attempts to manipulate people and events to consolidate their hold on power even further are obvious even to the undiscerning.

It was in the middle of January, 2020, that I received news that the money for our recording of Marcelo Adonay’s Pequeña Misa Solemne had finally become available.

By the middle of May, the rhythm of our life in quarantine had settled down a bit. So when Pastor Gane asked if I could resume my duties as Director of Music at NCUC and provide anthems for the weekly Home Worship Services that the church was posting every Sunday online, it was easy to say “yes” to him

The Holy Week of 2020 was memorable for me in that it coincided with the last days of my enforced quarantine at home. For the most part of the day, I was alone with my thoughts, in deep reflection, grappling with the enormity of the cataclysmic change that was confronting us all.

In a moment of idleness, I surf through the internet, browsing through the thoughts of my acquaintances similarly isolated in space by the “Enhanced Community Quarantine” that has been imposed on the nation in the wake of the pandemic.

It has been three weeks since I was released from hospital isolation in the first frantic moments of the “Enhanced Community Quarantine” brought about by the Covid 19 pandemic.
